1. RANGE
1.1.This Standard sets forth performance requirements for Mortise Locks and Latches. The requirements encompass operational, cycle, strength, material evaluation, security, and finish tests, as well as dimensional criteria.
1.2Tests described in this Standard are conducted in laboratory conditions. Due to installation, maintenance, and environmental conditions, results may vary in actual usage.
1.4 Grade qualifications
1.4.1Two classifications of Grades are explained in this Standard, that is classification. Manufacturers shall indicate, separately, for both an Operational Grade and a Security Grade level of mortise locks and latches. The minimum grade required for Operational and Security grades shall be grade 3.
1.4.1.1 Operational Grades must fulfill the criteria outlined in Sections 8, 9, 10, 11, and 13.
1.4.1.2 The requirements of Section 12 shall be met by Security Grades.
1.4.2 All functions must undergo testing to determine if they meet the qualifications for Operational Grades. If the lock case and operating parts of other functions are constructed in the same way as those of the lock that was previously tested, they will be considered as meeting the criteria.
1.4.3 Function F21 or a comparable function with dead bolts and function F04 or a comparable function without dead bolts need to undergo testing with the trim in order to qualify for certification under Security Grades. If the lock case and operating parts are constructed the same as that of the lock previously tested, all other functions where access is prevented will be considered as meeting the criteria.
